Rethinking Trauma in the Hurricane’s Wake

Judith Pintar

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Hurricane Katrina challenges us to recognize that psychological healing is possible for the victims of a catastrophe but that their healing is contingent on material changes in the social world.

Key Words: New Orleans • Hurricane Katrina • trauma • disaster • social justice
